Our local church is part of The Wesleyan Church; an evangelical, Protestant denomination with over 5,000 local congregations united in worldwide outreach.
We focus on the good news that faith in Jesus Christ makes possible a personal relationship with God, a holy life empowered by His Spirit for witness and service, and assurance of abundant life in Christ here and eternal life in heaven. Our name is in honor of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, which emphasizes God’s grace that enables us to believe, to practice self-discipline and to love God and others wholeheartedly.
Hayworth has a long history of reaching individuals in High Point with the love of God. Founded in 1924, Hayworth was named for Emma Hayworth who had a burden to see more people reached for Christ and so donated land for a new church to be planted. Through the years the focus has always been on the need of people to find God and experience the love of God in their life. Many have come to faith. Many have given their lives as pastors or missionaries in that long history. The church met until 1971 at the intersection of Newton, Meadow and Chestnut streets and, due to growth of the congregation, moved to the current location on Westchester Drive. In the early 2000s work was completed on a major expansion to increase space for the school ministry.
Two new churches have been launched from the congregation and Hayworth Christian School was founded 1996. These continue our Wesleyan heritage of seeking to reach new people with the love of God. It is this passion for people which has made involvement in community ministries and investing in missions around the globe a prime characteristic of Hayworth’s ministry.
Our story longs to continue by adding the stories of individual lives transformed by the Hope of Jesus Christ. We hope your story will be one more.
