OUR STORY

Hayworth Wesleyan Church

Hayworth Wesleyan Church is part of The Wesleyan Church, an evangelical, Protestant denomination with over 5,000 congregations united in worldwide outreach.

Our focus is on the good news that faith in Jesus:

  • Makes a personal relationship with God possible,

  • Allows for the Holy Spirit to empower our lives to share the gospel and serve others, and

  • Assures us of an abundant life in Christ here and for eternity.

The Wesleyan name is in honor of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. Our Methodist heritage emphasizes the truth that God’s grace enables us to believe, to practice self-discipline, and to love God and others wholeheartedly.

Hayworth has a long history of reaching individuals in High Point with the love of God.  Founded in 1924, Hayworth was named for Emma Hayworth. She had a burden to see more people reached for Christ and donated land for a new church.  Throughout the years, Hayworth’s focus has been on sharing the good news of Jesus with the community so that others may experience new life in Christ. Hayworth is a place where many have come to faith, and where many have given their lives to become pastors or ministers. Until 1971, Hayworth met at the intersection of Newton, Meadow, and Chestnut streets. Due to the growth of the congregation, Hayworth moved to the current location on Westchester Drive.  In the early 2000s, work was completed on a major expansion to increase space for our school ministry.

Two new churches have been launched from Hayworth, and in 1996, Hayworth Christian School was founded. The two churches and the school work to create more opportunities to share the love of God with our community. Hayworth is heavily involved in local community ministries, such as Open Door Ministries, as well as global missions.

Our history is filled with stories of individuals lives that have been transformed by Jesus. But there is more. We hope your story will be one more.
